On laundry days you’re all out of clothes and you’re only wearing the things you have left. You have to pause everything you want to do and go to the laundromat and confront reality. For the five members of Two Year Vacation there’s a duality in this moment. Whilst you are as far away from your dreams as possible, it’s also the place where dreams and visions touches you the most. And the further you are away from your dreams, the stronger you long for them. It’s from this duality Two Year Vacations new album ”Laundry Day” takes its’ place.

Two Year Vacation is the band that originates from its own contrast. The quintet founded in Gothenburg, Sweden’s second city, a seaport known for its rain, headwind and grayness, makes rhythmic radio-friendly indie pop with musical influences ranging from ABBA to Fatboy Slim through early Daft Punk, MGMT, Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend and Peter Björn & John. Two Year Vacation is about driving out all stale sense of the mundane.

In Gothenburg, historically being a scene for heavy metal, Two Year Vacation thrives from finding the bright colors in between the tones of grey. With inspiration from trivial daily routines, like the laundry day we’re all are familiar with, they make music that travels in a fascinating blend of Italo disco, rock and Caribbean kraut through easygoing joyful rhythms wrapped in tropical vibes.

After releasing two self-sustained EPs Two Year Vacation joined forces with the Hamburg based label Clouds Hill and Warner Music Germany. The result was the debut album ”Slacker Island” released in 2019. The album was preceded by, amongst others, the radio hit single ”Better Off Alone”, the dance floor filler ”Don’t Wanna Go Home” and the critics favorite ”I Forgot Your Name (But I Like You)”. Whomping up a staggering four million streams ”Slacker Island” has also taken to the hearts of indie fans all around the globe.

Whilst 2019 was a hectic year with both the release of their debut album as well as touring across Europe and with first performances in both the US and the UK, Two Year Vacation never rests.

Even though the name implies the opposite, Two Year Vacation doesn’t take vacations. Hence 2020 has so far already seen the release of the singles ”Don’t Know Anybody Else” and ”Never Been To Paris”, as well as the four track EP ”Bedroom Rock”. Massively supported by both radio DJs and playlist editors the EP’s also been hailed by editorials dubbing the releases a ”shot of indie sugar” (Bands of Tomorrow), calling it ”a direct path from the auricle to the dancing leg” (Tonspin) and labeling ”the positive impact (…) enormous” (Kraschfink). The band’s also been called ”Swedens own Vampire Weekend” (Hymn) as well as ”one of the best bands to originate from Sweden since ABBA” (Concrete Online).

The new album “Laundry Day” arrives October 30th, digitally as well as on 12″ vinyl, and is preceeded by the singles “Getaway” on July 31st and “Django” on September 11th.

“Getaway”, being the first track on the album was one of the earliest songs the band started working on when beginning the album process and a song that sets the mood for the full album. Its’ melancholic vibe dared the band to write something more honest and musically ”Getaway” is an instant mood- booster and in its’ core truly a characteristic Two Year Vacation song and a perfect summer soundtrack.

“Django” sprung from the idea of playing like the legendary Belgian born Jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. “We’re not sure if it ended up like that but it’s still a great song about fear of important life decisions and feeling jealousy to the people who knows what they want out of their lifes!” the bands singer Anton says about the single.
