This thriving student community has produced some of the city’s most exciting up and coming artists who will now be showcased across the country. The 5 date tour will stop off at Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham, Bristol and London.

The Birmingham date will feature: FERGUS CHANNELL + PORTOBELLO + HARICO + THE RESERVOIR CATS

Fergus Channell is a Birmingham based artist originally from Southampton creating an alternative jazz infused sound. Since Fergus’s first solo gig in 2018, he has developed an original style taking inspiration from the alternative and modern jazz music scenes. Soulful melodies and rhythmic guitar allow Fergus to create a unique blend of genre alongside the political discourse intertwined in his lyricism. With his newest release of the live demo ‘Sessions’, the coming year is set to be an exciting time for the artist with a number of gigs and releases to follow alongside a variety of talented artists emerging in the Birmingham music scene.

Shai Brides are a group from Birmingham who write hectic pop music. Drawing comparisons to post-punk and the experimental indie groups of the 1980s such as New Order and Talking Heads, as well as newer alternative acts such as Everything Everything and St Vincent, Shai Brides bring together whirling psychedelic guitars with glittering synths and blistering drumbeats. Their debut single, ‘Joie de Vivre’, was released in September to great acclaim, earning a spot as BBC Introducing WM’s ‘Track of the Month’ for September. With expectations high, time will tell what the band does next.

Since their formation in late 2017, Portobello have developed a unique musical style, influenced by the likes of Tom Misch, Jamiroquai, and Ady Suleiman, resulting in a sound that combines the elements of funk, neo-soul, and indie genres.
Portobello’s debut single ‘Money’ was recorded at Park Studios. Boasting intricate drum fills, slick guitar, and funky basslines under soulful vocal melodies, ‘Money’ is emblematic of the band’s funkier and more upbeat side.
The band are set to release the full EP in late 2019.

harico. have burst onto the B29 scene combining elements of synth pop, indie and disco with a big stage presence and tight musicianship which has developed a loyal local following. Formed at UoB in 2017, the first three members bonded over music tastes and tinned foodstuffs, and began jamming over demos in a small halls kitchen. Completing the line up with a skilled drummer at a university event set the beans growing, and they have recently undertaken their most challenging studio project to date which they cannot wait to share.
